Cool Girl Fall: 10 Songs to add to your Fall Playlist this Year

"cool girl fall" playlist cover on Apple Music. Jessi Dworkin '26

When I walk around campus with my possibly outdated wired headphones, I wait for someone to come up to me and ask, “What are you listening to?”

Crafting playlists is not a task that should be taken lightly. It takes a certain effort and precision to gather the perfect songs for the right time and place. Cleaning my room playlist, driving with parents playlist, indie Christmas playlist. Time and place.

Obviously, a new season calls for a new playlist. The air had just the slightest crisp to it this morning, and you know that made me start my fall preparations. Sweaters are coming out of storage, my Uggs are being put to use, and iced pumpkin chai lattes are quickly becoming a staple. And most important, a new hand-crafted, particularly curated playlist had to be made.

Here are 10 songs I think everyone should add to their current playlist.

I’ve Been In Love (feat. Channel Tres) - Jungle

This song is funky. This song is danceable. This “love ballad” encapsulates Jungle’s euphoric vibe among a mix of disco, soul, and rap. Jungle is a British group founded back in 2013, but this is the first I’ve heard from them – and it definitely won't be the last.

Think Fast - Dominic Fike & Weezer

Fike was able to show his versatility on this new album, “Sunburn”. This song is a laid-back listen. It is a sultry reflection of only getting one try in life. It’s a perfect listen for doing some homework or walking around on a slightly cloudy day.

Peppers (feat. Tommy Genesis) - Lana Del Rey

This song truly never misses, with its Angelina-Jolie referencing chorus and Tommy Genesis feature. The build up in energy across the entire album hits its peak in this song. It’s different from the rest of the album it comes from, “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.” Put this song on when you need a pick-me-up.

Purity (feat. Frank Ocean) - A$AP Rocky

This song is an exploration of struggles, searching for authenticity, and the importance of finding peace among chaos. With Frank Ocean’s feature, I knew I was going to love this song.

Sarah’s Place (feat. Noah Kahan) - Zach Bryan

These lyrics are a perfect combination of bittersweet and endearing. The musical combination of folk riffs and easygoing acoustic makes this song easy to listen to in any scenario.

Lacy - Olivia Rodrigo

On the 4th track of her newest album, Guts, the line between envy and admiration blurs. The last lyrics of the song say, “Lacy, oh, Lacy, I just loathe you lately // And I despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you // Yeah, I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you.” Rodrigo perfectly encapsulates beautiful female rage in this song.

The 1 - Taylor Swift

You know I had to talk about Taylor Swift eventually. This first song on her album, “Folklore” is nostalgic, it's comforting, it’s reassuring, If Taylor can go through it, so can we. This song is a reminder that you can think about what almost was, but also to move forward and appreciate the present.

Clay Pigeons - Micheal Cera

After listening to this song for probably 4 years consistently, I still can’t tell if I want to cry out of happiness or heart-shattering sadness. Something about Micheal Cera singing to me about finding purpose and something to long for pulls on every single string in my heart. Thank you, Micheal Cera.

Smoke Signals - Phoebe Bridgers

Warning! Beware! You have been warned. This one hurts. Bridger is able to make this song so raw and vulnerable, yet I cannot stop listening to it. This song is a hauntingly beautiful song that has themes of nostalgia, self-reflection, and loss. Bridger’s is delicate, yet shatters every piece of me with this song.

Cowboy - Tyler, The Creator

Loneliness and self-discovery are buried in the lyrics of this song, which you probably wouldn’t pick up on your first listen. The lyrics talk about a person trying to find their place in the world. Tyler, The Creator has been able to form such a diverse discography and this is only one of the many songs he has that I have loved recently.
